From 1 October 2026, anyone appointed or re-appointed to a strata committee in NSW must complete NSW Fair Trading’s free online course, Introduction to Strata Committee Rights and Responsibilities, within three months of their appointment.

The video above walks through registering for Strata Hub and starting the course in about a minute. The steps are also set out below.

The one-minute guide

Who: Committee members appointed or re-appointed from 1 October 2026.

Deadline: Within 3 months of being appointed, every year. Miss it and you automatically cease to be on the committee.

Course: Free, about an hour, online through Strata Hub.

When you finish: Give your certificate to your committee secretary. If Netstrata manages your building, email it to committeetraining@netstrata.com.au.

Who needs to complete the training

Appointed or re-appointed on or after 1 October 2026: complete the training within three months of your appointment.

Appointed before 1 October 2026: you don’t need to complete it until your next appointment, usually at your next AGM.

The training is required each year, within three months of being appointed. Members who don’t complete it in time automatically cease to be on the committee.

About the course

  • Free
  • About an hour, in one sitting or several
  • Completed online through Strata Hub
  • No MyServiceNSW account needed
  • Six lessons covering how strata works, the role of the committee, decision making, legal and ethical responsibilities, finances and building management, and conflict management

How to register and complete the course

  1. Select “register for Strata Hub”, then “I’m ready to register”. Start on Fair Trading’s strata committee training page. The registration link is in the note under the main button.
  2. Enter your details, tick the boxes and select Register. Use your real name, because it’s printed on your certificate.
  3. In the Strata Hub email, select “Activate my account”. Check your junk or spam folder if it’s not in your inbox. The link expires after seven days.
  4. Create a password, then select Continue. Your password can’t include any part of your email address or your name. Phone and authenticator app sign-in are optional.
  5. Log in with your password and the link Strata Hub emails you. The sign-in link expires after five minutes, or you can type the code instead.
  6. Select “Start your training”, then “Go to training”. Check that your first and last name are correct before you continue. If they’re not, fix them in My profile first, because your name can’t be changed once your certificate is issued.
  7. Open the course and select Launch. Work through all six lessons, then select “Download certificate”.

When you’ve finished

Download your certificate and give a copy to your committee secretary. If Netstrata manages your building, we act as your committee secretary, so email a PDF of your certificate to committeetraining@netstrata.com.au and we’ll keep it on record.

In short: Register for Strata Hub, log in, select "Start your training" and complete the six lessons within 3 months of your appointment. Then send your certificate to your committee secretary.

Please note

This is NSW Fair Trading’s mandatory course. Netstrata’s Strata Committee Webinar Series is separate and doesn’t count towards the requirement.
